Where else can you go to and not have to take a shower or shave for 3 days!? Men’s Retreat is the place to be for all men who want to grow in their faith and have a great time.
Sleep is optional and somewhat difficult if you happen to bunk with a guy who snores in high-definition surround sound. That's not really a problem since you can crawl out of bed and have as many pancakes and bacon your arteries can handle. Men are free to make a joyful noise in more ways than one. The sights and smells of men's camp are not for the faint of heart. Spiritual Bed-wetters need not apply.
Over 20 men and youth connected to our church made the 5 ½ hour journey to the great outdoors last month for a great time of fellowship, recreation, and spiritual encouragement. Our group was one of the largest groups of men proportional to the size of their church.
FBC won the 3-on-3 basketball tournament for the second time in 10 years. That’s right, baby…FBC is the SWCBA Men’s Basketball Champions! FBC also won their first human foosball tournament and represented the church well in horseshoes and ping-pong.
This year's theme was Know Pain, Know Gain. The pain the speaker spoke of is not the kind that comes as a consequence of our actions. The speaker spoke about 'inexplicable pain' which God allows to come into our lives as one way to make us humble and give us more grace. The theme of God's grace resonated with men as the speaker spoke openly about great personal loss in the midst of a life and marriage whole-heartedly committed to the Lord. The combination of experiences made for an unforgettable weekend of transformation and growth.
Mark your calendars men! Men's Retreat is scheduled for April 23-25th, 2010. All who went this year made a commitment to return next year.
